Otis, an 8 year old 106 lb. lab/Dane mix, became a Tripawd on February 9, 2016 after his right front leg broke due to osteosarcoma. We did 4 rounds of carboplatin, but lung mets were discovered on Agust 25, and he passed on September 4. Otis was half of a bonded pair, and his adopted sister Tess, passed suddenly of hemangiosarcoma on October 9. The day before Tess passed, a local lab rescue group had identfied Gator, a 120 pound 6 year old yellow in need of a home, as a potential companion for her. His picture was on my phone, and my house needed a dog. . .
I took a couple of days off when we adopted Otis to help him get accustomed to our family. We spent most of it outside – I am not sure if he had much exposure to green stuff before.
He was about 6 months old, and so thin.Seeing the photos now, it amazes me how much younger he looks.
Just realized that our House 5, family rest stop photo got cut off and only shows Tess’ nose. (Sorry, its finals week for my blog designer). Figured we’d try again.
The owners of House 5 are the best neighbors. They don’t have pets, but they are totally comfortable with Otis stopping here. And don’t they have such a nice lawn?
I have started taking them out for walks together, using the long hunting lead. They have a ball, both of them enjoy themselves so much, and now House 5 is a family rest stop. They even get the chance to play a little, since the lead is so long.Unfortunately for Tess, these things come in twos.He managed to lean against me for most of the bath. I could tell he was tired at the end, but it worked.Bath time!
He did really great, and now smells so nice!
All done! Shared another piece of Apple Peanut Butter Dog Cake for reward.
Bought a 50 foot hunting lead. I sit in a lawn chair in the sun, with Tess on one end . .and Otis on the other!New Petco opened so we got matching bandanas. I have to admit that Otis wasn’t that fond of his “completed chemo” bandana – must have smelled like vet hospital. Please ignore the fact that you see more weeds than lawn.Rolling in the grass in his Ruffwear Webmaster Plus harness. This is “house 5” on our normal walk. Fortunately, the owners like dogs, because he will stay here for 10 – 15 minutes.Exploring the front yard, in his Ruffwear Webmaster Plus harness. He looks so good in red!Hanging out in the backyard. Felt like I had to have at least a couple of pictures of him actually standing up.
