Otis, an 8 year old 106 lb. lab/Dane mix, became a Tripawd on February 9, 2016 after his right front leg broke due to osteosarcoma. We did 4 rounds of carboplatin, but lung mets were discovered on Agust 25, and he passed on September 4. Otis was half of a bonded pair, and his adopted sister Tess, passed suddenly of hemangiosarcoma on October 9. The day before Tess passed, a local lab rescue group had identfied Gator, a 120 pound 6 year old yellow in need of a home, as a potential companion for her. His picture was on my phone, and my house needed a dog. . .

  3. Still too many sad and stunned tears to be able to say anything for now. Words hsvr yet to be created anyway that express the overwhelming grief and sadness your Tipawd Family feels..

Christine, the pictures are BEAUTIFUL. The connection and bond comes shining through. The photos really emphasize that they were born to be together eternally. They would not allow anything to separate them.

  4. Christine, I am so sorry for your loss. When I read about Otis I was so upset and heartbroken, I couldn’t find the words to write to help you heal. I kept thinking I’d find something enlightening to help with pain. Now Tess. This is not fair. I’m just speechless. May your heart find comfort. You made a difference in the lives of these beautiful creatures. From the photos they clearly were loved and happy. In the end that’s all we can do. 5 months ago I became a tripawd mom and had so many questions. You always replied to my questions and were so encouraging. Love to you and your family. 5. A picture is indeed worth a thousand words…I think your analogy about the old married couple who die within weeks of each other is spot on for these two beautiful souls. And I also believe Tess hung on just long enough to help you grieve Otis; she knew you are strong and will be ok, but she needed him perhaps more than she needed to stay on Earth with you. Knowing you will all be together again, she moved on to be with her Otis. Until that joyous day comes, wishing you peace and love.

  6. I’m sitting here in tears Christine.
I am so sorry. Wherever they are, they are together. I 100% believe that. I agree with Paula. Tess was there to help you get through the loss of Otis and now she has moved on. I’m sending many prayers for comfort during this difficult time. I am so sorry for your loss.

  7. A flood of tears that Tess had to leave, Christine. My stomach clenched in knots…

But she left this world as she experienced it in these years with you: secure and wrapped in love. The pictures of her with dear Otis are just so special – there is such tenderness and trust between the two of them and for you. It radiates from her eyes in that beautiful, beautiful face.

Wishing you comfort in many happy memories of your two loving canine companions.

Night, night pretty Tessie; dearly loved and keenly missed.

  8. You’ve been on our mind all day. There is no way anyone can prepare for such a terrible shock, I just hope you feel a little better by leaning on this community.

With all the love and sympathy we’ve got, we send our hugs across the miles. I wish we could do something to make this easier.

May Tess and Otis be together forever, always romping and having fun like when they were young, and smiling down on all of us. Their kindred spirits will shine brightly for all of us.
