Otis and Tess – A New Normal

It's been a challenge to find the right amount of stimulation to keep him Otis active and engaged, without overdoing it. I bought them each a Kong, and got such a kick out of his one legged contortions to get to it. The good news, he doesn't seem to be able to rip it without the leverage of the other foot. And yes, the second Kong in the picture was supposed to be for Tess.

House 5 - How do we get away with calling this a walk??? But in all honesty, when he is upside down, he seems so happy and relaxed.

Hanging around in the sun the afternoon after our oncology check-up. I was reading a book outside, and Otis and Tess just could not be left indoors.

Otis, an 8 year old 106 lb. lab/Dane mix, became a Tripawd on February 9, 2016 after his right front leg broke due to osteosarcoma. We did 4 rounds of carboplatin, but lung mets were discovered on Agust 25, and he passed on September 4. Otis was half of a bonded pair, and his adopted sister Tess, passed suddenly of hemangiosarcoma on October 9. The day before Tess passed, a local lab rescue group had identfied Gator, a 120 pound 6 year old yellow in need of a home, as a potential companion for her. His picture was on my phone, and my house needed a dog. . .

  1. “How do I get away with calling this a walk?” Your answer is in the next sentence – happy and relaxed is what matters most.

Go team Otis and Tess. The new normal looks pretty good.

  3. Otis! You silly boy!’ Just because you are an adorable tripawd doesn’t mean you can get away with everything!! Okay, yes it does and you know!! But taking BOTH Kongs and not letting Tess have hers……….you are a very silly boy indeed! ๐Ÿ™‚

You’ve really mastered the art of handling toys and bones just fine with one paw…and brilliantly using your bed to assist you!

You and Tess are such handsome, and beautiful, pups!

All these pics are my “fav”, but seeing Otis so ecstatic as he enjoys stretching out on his back at hoise #5….that is my fav of all!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ It just thrills me to see him so happy and so full of bloss just enjoying BEING DOG!

Well I just love these pics. I hope you don’t mind Christine but I’d love to share them to show that dogs can really do things with their power paw!

  5. The bully stick photo is great. Thanks. We’ve been trying to figure something out for Casey, and that might be it.
