Return of the alliGator

I miss all of you, and wish I could be of help to all of the new members joining.  Still just really hard to visit the site, but I am loving the Tripawds calendar!

Just wanted to give a quick update on Mr. Gator.   He loves the snow, and still loves chasing critters.   He will sit, as still as a statue, waiting for a squirrel to come too close.  Fortunately, they never do.  But, possums really do play dead quite effectively.

My bed is his safe place, and where you will find him much of the time.  His first dental revealed that many of his teeth are worn in such as way that it is likely he spent much of his life in a cage.  He continues to be terrified of abandonment – I have kind of given up on trying to change that and am focused more on just minimizing situations that trigger his fear.  And, he still suffers from skin allergies, which get worse when he is under stress.  Even more reason to just stay in bed!

We never found the ideal companion – he seems to have bonded with Enzo the cat, which is good because Enzo missed the dogs horribly.

Gator’s foot is on Enzo, and neither care a bit.

Very hard to get out of bed and go to work some days!

Otis, an 8 year old 106 lb. lab/Dane mix, became a Tripawd on February 9, 2016 after his right front leg broke due to osteosarcoma. We did 4 rounds of carboplatin, but lung mets were discovered on Agust 25, and he passed on September 4. Otis was half of a bonded pair, and his adopted sister Tess, passed suddenly of hemangiosarcoma on October 9. The day before Tess passed, a local lab rescue group had identfied Gator, a 120 pound 6 year old yellow in need of a home, as a potential companion for her. His picture was on my phone, and my house needed a dog. . .

  1. Christine it is very good to hear from you. I understand the issues about how being hard to come to the site. Gator has grown immensely since you got him. Keep improving Gator.

  2. It really is good to hear from you. And to see how wonderfully Gator is doing. After losing Murphy I had a hard time coming here, too …now after Cassie it’s even harder. I wonder in for a few minutes here & there, but that’s about all my heart can take.
    Hugs to you

  3. I was just thinking about you and Gator the other day….its good to hear an update. He sure is a good looking boy! I don’t come to the site very often these days either; I feel some guilt about that, but with my warrior gone, a big piece of me is too. I think this is a natural progression of things. I’m sure there is a new group of “us” on there, to help the new members joining. Do pop in from time to time…we’ve missed you.

  4. We certainly understand not being in here a lot. You had such an incredibly cruel loss with Otis and Tess so close together.

It does light up our world though to hear how happy Mr Gator is in his loving furever home!

I @pve seeing the photos of him all snuggly and cozy and feeling so safe all cuddled up in bed. When I first saw the pic with Enzo in it, I thought it was a puppy! Sorry Enzo!

Speaking of….are you still paying attention to see if Otis and Tess are sending you and Gator another dog??

The worn down teeth are such a clue to unhappier times Gator may have experienced. So sad. But that was then. Gator is where he was born to be and he’s a very happy big boy!! 🙂 🙂

WONDERFUL to hear from you!!!! REALLY!

    Lots of love!

  5. We are so glad to hear from you, Christine! Gator and Enzo look pretty darned contented together. Sally, you must remember that Enzo is the cat who thinks he is a dog, so thinking he was a puppy is perfectly natural!

I understand how difficult it is for you, Christine. I go long periods of time before resurfacing for a bit and then going back into hiding. Gradually things will get better.

Please keep us up to date on the continuing adventures of Gator and Enzo.

  6. Christiiiiiiine! It’s so good to see you and find out how the pack is doing. Looks like you have all settled into the sweet spot, how wonderful!

Don’t ever feel badly for not visiting us here, we totally get it and it’s OK. When you’re able, drop us a line, we love to hear from you. And when you’re not, we are keeping you in our hearts so no worries.

Lots of love to you and the pack!
